This class is ideal for training the new-hire call receiver or as a refresher for existing employees. This course covers the basic skills, knowledge, and abilities every successful public safety telecommunicator need.

Some of the topics covered include: Duties and functions of the call taker, Technology (phone/radio/CAD/Next Gen 911/Rapid SOS/Text to 911), TTY, Customer Service, Active Listening, Justice based policing, implicit bias, All caller questions, 6 Ws, EMD (Chain of survival, all caller questions, HIPPA), Fire Call Taking, HAZMAT, Challenging Callers, Callers in Crisis and Mentally Ill which covers the characteristics of depressed individuals, paranoid schizophrenic individuals, Crisis Intervention Training including de-escalation techniques, suicide risk assessment and handling calls from suicidal individuals, Trauma Informed Care/emotional and psychological responses to trauma, Child/Elderly/Limited English/Callers with disabilities. Stress management, Professional Development and Team Dynamics, Liability, Confidentiality, AMBER Alert, NCMEC, High Risk Calls (Threats/in progress calls/Suspicious/Domestic Violence)
